Friends, myspace and facebook Feb 10

UPDATE WITH A FUN SONG!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

You may notice that Mada is back. UPDATE here-she is gone already LOL but here she is

(if you have never seen her before please forgive me-I do change avatars a lot- read about them here if you wish)

Thinking a lot lately about many things, as usual the ADD is going full blast. Sometimes I feel like Lexie-always walking around looking for trouble

but then she has an excuse. She's part Siamese!

So what is this about friends, and why did I put my top on random tonight? You may know that most of the people on my top friends are hardly ever here anymore. Oh they stop by to see some blogs, and I do communicate with them on facebook (and some on email and phone) and still love them all, but they are not the people that I interact with the most on Myspace. I don't make a big deal about it but the top friends are (or should be) the folks I interact with (on my page and on the blogs) most when I am here. So the friends are on random for now and may be for a while. Luckily none of my friends really care too much about the "top friend" game-they know they're my friends and I guess that's enough. (I don't pay much attention to it either.)

About facebook-yes I could write a rant about how much facebook sucks and how restrained I am there, but other people do it better (check out Carl on the subject-he is one funny mofo), so I don't think I need to rehash it all again.

I will say this about the difference and the function of each, in my mind anyway. Aside from being the place where all the kids I know hang out online, thus my Aunt Elizabeth persona, facebook is the place where many people I "met" on myspace are hanging out nowadays. That's fine with me, whatever floats your boat, but I find it a little boring.

To me facebook is the place you go when you don't want to meet anyone new. Maybe you reconnect with family or old friends, but it's really not conducive to meeting new people. Yes I belong to some groups there but they are really fan pages and they keep me up to date with what is going on, but they are not about one-on-one interaction.

"They" say myspace is dying, but I really think it has a place, especially if you like to blog and put your work and/or heart and soul out there. When you do this, yes your friends gather and comment, but there is always a chance that someone new, someone you never would have "met" otherwise, will come around and comment. Keeping myself open to meeting new people through words and pictures is part of why I am here. (of course I don't mean the pedophiles and creepy folks-luckily I don't attract them whew! I also check people out before I friend them, and I normally read their blogs and/or have some friends in common before I take the plunge-but that's another blog)

So I guess this explains why I am eventually going to rearrange my top friends, and why I reposted my AUTO-biography blog. Although I still interact with many of those friends in other venues, I continue to make new friends and readers HERE and I love it!

Thanks for being here and reading and commenting.

Do you have a facebook page too? (Don't worry I won't go trying to add you over there LOL. This is the real me anyway) What do you think?

Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult Jun 09

Perusing a blog by someone I don't normally read (pimped by Mantana PR) and I saw a comment by someone called Cleverly Disguised as a Responsible Adult. After I read and closed the blog, I started wondering about the person who used that title/name/moniker here on Myspace.

What was their deal? So-I went looking for them and this is what I found

Thirty two people who decided they were cleverly disguised as responsible adults.

Hmmm-now you could argue that all of us wear such a disguise; are these people more honest than the rest of us, or just more arrogant?

What do you think?

A rant because I'm first 9/16/08

Just because I feel like a bitch right now. Work is VERY ANNOYING so I'm going to vent that shit right here right now.

I can't talk about work, but I can and will say something about a certain piece of MySpace business that's bugged me since time immemorial.

The "I'M FIRST" disease!

I just looked at a blog on which it was clear that the first three commenters didn't read the blog and didn't particularly care what it said. They just wanted to make sure the blog writer knew that they were stalking his page-breathlessly waiting for a new blog so they could FIRST it. WTF?!!! And this is not the FIRST time I've seen this nonsense-the first several comments on many blogs I read are full of this bullshit. They don't even read the damn thing and they admit to it- "I'm going back to read your blog now."

Of course they couldn't be first if they took even a couple minutes to skim the blog, because these blogs are popular and attract a lot of comments-but still-who gives a shit if you are FIRST? Do you have anything interesting, funny, or even stupid to say about the blog?

I just don't get it and I hope that no one ever does that shit on my blog. I don't think anyone is stalking me and I'm not a popular blogger outside my own circle of friends and subscribers so I'm not too concerned about it. If that shit is the price of MySpace fame, however, you can have it. Adding to the inanity of the world is my job with the blog LOL-no FIRSTING allowed here. If you need to be inane, write your own damn blog and I'll come over and read it, otherwise....

Thank you-I feel better-I wish I could fix my real problem but I guess this will have to do.

BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

Thinking about Rick 8/19/08

My status message today when Rick disappeared:

Rick is gone poof! Somehow I'm not buying it though-should we be looking for a book about MySpace? or am I just a conspiracy theorist?

Rick's last blog, just in case you missed it:

So-If I hadn't been out on MySpace this morning taking a break from tedious loan files, I might have missed the departure of Rick, everyone's favorite banana. As you can read from the above, he decided to get a full time job and is starting after Labor Day, so he wrote his last blog (after deleting all previous blogs) and less than an hour later-he was gone-deleted and up in smoke.

Now I don't know about you, but I work a full time job, but still have time to blog and read blogs on Myspace. I have a friend who was very active over the spring blogging and commenting, but when he got a new job that he knew would require long hours, he let us know that he wouldn't be around very much. Even though he is not very active, he still has his page and changes his status so we know he is alive and well. (I'm still waiting for some puppy pictures, though!)

My point being, it is possible to have a real life and still be out here on Myspace. There are varying degrees of participation, and some people are more active than others, but after all, this is ourspace to use as we wish, right?

Maybe I'm reading too much into Rick's hasty exit from the Space, but the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not that it really matters, because he was very entertaining when he was here and we all enjoyed his funny blogs. He was very stingy with information, which is fine too, you tell me whatever you want to- but I'm now calling everything he ever said and did into question.

Remember Salis Baj? That cute redhead that appeared during the last round of dust-ups between Bad Lisa and what's-his-name and their assorted minions, and very cryptically announced that she/he/it was a grad student working on a paper and would everyone help her? Whatever happened to she/he/it? Maybe the same place as "Rick"?

Okay so here's the theory-we've all been rats in a scientific experiment! Who was "Rick"? Was he really a comic from NY who went through some bad times and now trying to come back? Did he live in NY in an apartment with one window with threesomes going on outside the window (that was some funny shit though!) Will we see ourselves in a book (or a sociology paper LOL) about Myspace? I just hope he changes the names to protect the innocent and the guilty LOL (thanks Karen)

Now I know this is full of passive voice and grammatical errors, but I've been thinking about this shit all day and just have to get it out.

What do you think? Am I a paranoid maniac or is there something not quite right?

Ice cream cone, banana, gone! Now Rick, if you're reading this, I still thank you for all the entertainment and enlightment you provided me and wish you all the best-but WTF?

Who are you? Myspace Identities 8/10/08

You've probably noticed that I changed my default picture today-I am now represented by my car! She's clean and gorgeous and her top was down yesterday-I just couldn't resist! This brings me to a blog-MySpace identities.

If you are not intrigued by how people present themselves on Myspace, then you should stop reading right now. I've been spending some time thinking about this subject lately and need to express how my feelings have changed in the time I've been hanging around the 'Space.

When I first came here in earnest (first blog Oct 07) I didn't think much of "fake" profiles-if someone didn't have real pictures on their page somewhere I really wasn't interested. At that point MySpace was about expressing the real life ups and downs-that's why I loved Kate's blogs so much (still do actually, but at the time her blogs were as regular as clockwork-when I went to Chicago I'd wake up and enjoy my "Kate in the morning").

After reading some blogs and interesting comments for a while, I realized that there were those who did not want to reveal their real selves, but still wrote a very entertaining blog. I still didn't quite understand them, but softened my opinion about these "fake" people, because, after all, MySpace is all about entertainment! So if these fake profiles could and did make me laugh in my hotel room in Elmhurst, IL, and got me through the tedium of that job (and subsequent other road trips), I gave them a pass.

Some people seem to have more than one persona though, and although sometimes I try to figure out who's who, and in some cases I think I know, it takes too much time and effort to puzzle it all out, so again, they get a pass. It could be that they have one profile that is really them, and some "fake" ones to have fun with. Then there are those that have no "real" profile and never reveal ANY information. I have some empathy for this because my job requires me to work with and keep safe lots of confidential information, so even though I spill my guts about much of my life here, I don't talk about work or the people I work with. (I also need to keep my profile pretty vanilla; I never want to hear any shit about it from anyone at work who might stumble on it.) I never worry about covering my tracks because I don't talk out of both sides of my mouth, and try to stay neutral when it comes to drama.

So-as you can see I've changed my opinion since being here-my one requirement from "fake" people and profiles is that they entertain me-funny blogs are one of the big reasons that I am here, although some of the people on my friends list have become real friends, and I treasure them. The most interesting development is that I've also become friends with some of the "fake" people-something I never thought could be possible!

I have a penchant for photoblogs-I love to take pictures and making a blog out of them forces me to show the best and tell the story. Many of my friends, with profiles both real and fake, show up and comment on those blogs, and I appreciate all of you-thanks! (Sometimes some of my friends with "fake" profiles give away a little of themselves geographically; that is, they identify so strongly with the place I'm describing that they give me just a peek into who they really are. Don't worry if you are one of those people-please keep coming to my photoblogs and commenting if you are inspired-I promise I won't press you for any additional info, and if I do I'll just be pulling your chain LOL.)

I'm happy that I can entertain you all in some small way; I certainly don't have the imagination to come up with blogs like some of those I read- my photoblogs are my way of trying to reciprocate for all the amazing stuff I get to read!

Just for the record, I do have two other profiles out here. Yes-you read that right. One of them is my cat Beamer-Stone inspired me to create a page for Beamie that he shares with his sister Lexie. It's a little bare still but I hope to add more to it as time goes on. Check it out if you like kitties.

I also have a profile that I just recently made public-this is my secret hiding place-where I write some things I wish to keep private. I'm not going to link here, but I will say that I am my only friend so far, other than the ubiquitous Tom, of course. I created that profile as an outlet for some of my deepest secrets, both past and present, and so far all the blogs are just for me. They serve as a kind of therapy and really help me get through some of my thoughts and feelings that otherwise don't see the light of day.

So-there you have it-my take on MySpace identities-

What do you think?

Myspace as cheap entertainment/ 7/28/08

So-we all hear the 24/7 rant about the sky falling yada yada yada. Personally I'm sick and tired of all the doom and gloom, although I must admit that the cost of living has gone up dramatically in the past six months. The high prices of fuel and other commodities (I have a theory involving the Bejing Olympics) have increased the prices of everything we buy, so we need to tighten our belts; staying home instead of going out, holding off buying clothes, shoes, and other goodies, and in my case, adding almost two hours to my commute to the office-no wonder I'm exhausted!

Since the performance of my Phillies

right now is producing stress instead of relieving it, the only thing keeping my mind off my troubles these days is Tom's place for friends-you guessed it-MySpace!

Photobucket

This place provides endless entertainment and enlightenment, and lately it's been downright distracting-it's so crazy that I might need an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of the players LOL. I also have the benefit of some funny, ridiculous, and insightful friends; hilarious and moving blogs, and Photoshop masterpieces galore. Maybe the evil genius Dr. Zolton will even make me my own avatar....
It's a cornucopia of delights, although when Tom gets on the pipe, it's VERY FRUSTRATING and I have to turn my attention back to baseball.

All this distraction makes me forget that I'm watching the money; Myspace is free and easy to get to-it keeps my mind off the other things I can't do right now. It also keeps me away from shopping temptations, and yes they are many. I freely admit to being a shopaholic; in a way I'm transferring my addictive tendencies to MySpace. AAARRRRRGGGGG-it's sad but true-I must admit.
Photobucket

Although when I'm back out on the road in a hotel room with no Phillies baseball, MySpace will be even more addictive. My friends here helped me get through two months of working in Chicago; without them, all those nights in the hotel and endless hours in Philly and O'Hare airports would have been a lot harder, and I thank you all!

So enough with the maudlin stuff-this was supposed to be about MySpace as a distraction from our economic woes-what do you think?
